Welcome to MOVITE online image

Dear MOVITE members:

This fall MOVITE will hold elections for a Board Director from Arkansas, and State Directors from Missouri, Nebraska, and Iowa.

If you live in Arkansas, Missouri, Nebraska or Iowa, do you have interest in serving on the MOVITE Board?    The Board Director is a 6-year term.  The State Director is a 2-year term.  If so please review MOVITE Policy 8-3  or 8-4 (below) and send me a message stating your interest by June 1.  Once general interest has been established you will receive further instructions on information necessary to review applications and finalize the two candidates from your state for the upcoming election.

Thank you for your time and consideration in serving on the MOVITE Board.

8-2 Automatic Nominations for MOVITE Board

The Nominating Committee shall automatically nominate the current Vice-President for the Office of President in addition to any other nominees. The Nominating Committee shall automatically nominate the current Secretary for the Office of Vice-President in addition to any other nominees. The Nominating Committee shall automatically nominate the current Treasurer for the Office of Secretary in addition to any other nominees. The Nominating Committee shall automatically nominate the current Board Director for the Office of Treasurer in addition to any other nominees. These provisions shall not apply if the current officer(s) declines to run or if the current officer(s) neither resides nor is employed within the Section.

The Nominating Committee will attempt to provide as candidates those persons with the most Board experience. Examples of board experience are defined as:

A)                  Having demonstrated a desire to be active by serving on various committees or subcommittees of the organization,

B)                   Serving in an unofficial Board position such as student chapter liaison, or as an Ex-Officio Board Member such as web page administrator or Journal editor,

C)                   Having previously served on the State Director Board and are eligible to be considered for the Board Director,

D)                  Having served on a Spring or Fall MOVITE Meeting Host Committee or

E)             Having served as an officer of a local ITE Chapter.

It is desirable to maintain the six-state representation on the MOVITE Board, and therefore, first priority will be given to nominating qualified candidates from the state that will not have representation. However, it is recognized that it may not be possible to find qualified and willing candidates for every election. In a case where only one qualified candidate is available from the state not represented on the MOVITE Board, a second candidate will be selected from another state. In this case, the Nominating Committee will attempt to level the opportunity for both candidates by not selecting one candidate from a state with a large MOVITE membership and another candidate from a state with a small MOVITE membership. If candidates are not available from the state that is not represented on the MOVITE Board, candidates from any state can be nominated subject to the following guidelines:

A)            The Nominating Committee will select candidates such that it is not possible for the winner to be from the same state in two consecutive elections.

B)            The maximum number of MOVITE Board members from the same state will be limited to two at any one time unless the officer coincidentally moves to a state that would give that state three members on the MOVITE Board.

C)            If a MOVITE Board member relocates to a different state during their six-year term, thereby exceeding the maximum number of MOVITE Board members from the same state, no candidate for Board Director from that state will be eligible for nomination until there is less than two MOVITE Board members from that state.

8-3 Nominations for State Directors

The Nominating Committee will nominate candidates to serve on the State Director Board which shall consist of one Section member from each state. The successful candidates will serve for a two year term of office. Three State Directors will be elected each year such that there will be three senior State Directors and three junior State Directors on the State Director Board at all times.

No more than two candidates will be nominated for each open State Director position.

In the case where only one candidate is available, that candidate will run unopposed. In the event that no candidates are available at the time of election, or if a vacancy occurs during any portion of the two-year term, that state will not be represented on the State Director Board. The MOVITE Board can appoint a member from within that state to serve the remaining term of office.

Only members within the candidates’ state are eligible to vote for their State Director.

State Directors are eligible to run for the Board Director office under the following stipulations

A) They must be a MOVITE member. Affiliate members are not eligible

B) They must fulfill their full term as a State Director

C) If the candidate resigns their position as a State Director prior to the end of their term, they will not be eligible to run in the next MOVITE Board election.

Dear Members and Friends:

It is with great humility that I begin serving as your president. I want to thank all those of you that have come before me - Nicci Tiner, Linda Voss, Doug Ripley, Matt Selinger, Shawn Leight, Angelo Lombardo, and Brian Vines. I learned so much as we served together. Linda Voss (MOVITE President in 2006) encouraged me to run for the First Year Director office in 2005. Progressing through the offices, I now enter onto my presidential year.

Since most of you don't know me, I thought I would start with my background. I am from Omaha, Nebraska. I received my BSCE from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and my MSCE from the University of Kansas. After graduation, I joined KDOT, first, as a road designer and then as a traffic engineer.

Yes, I am one of Pat McCoy's students. For those of who knew Dr. McCoy, he was president of MOVITE (in 1992), and provided his students with a foundation as they started their traffic/transportation engineering careers. For those of who you never had an opportunity, you missed meeting an amazing person and transportation engineer.

Dr. McCoy emphasized that traffic/transportation engineering is about people. Whether you are an engineer, planner, technician or vendor, everything that we do everyday touches someone's life.

Since our careers are centered on serving others, our organization, too, is about serving others. MOVITE offers many opportunities -

   • Write an article for the MOVITE Journal.
   • Attend a chapter meeting. MOVITE has six chapters offering meetings, webinars, workshops, social gatherings, and public outreach.
   • Contact a student chapter in your area and ask them how you can help them out. They are always looking for speakers.
   • Invite a colleague to attend.
   • Celebrate our members. MOVITE has amazing people doing amazing things. Nominate a colleague for one of our awards.
   • Attend a MOVITE meeting.
   • Serve on the MOVITE board.

Speaking of meetings, we have some awesome meetings coming up:

Spring 2012 Meeting - April 25 to 27, Lincoln, Nebraska
At the Embassy Suites in downtown Lincoln

Fall 2012 Meeting - September 19 to 21, Lawrence, Kansas
At the Oread Hotel, near the University of Kansas

Mark your calendars and stay tuned for more information.

Please call me or email me if you have any questions or suggestions for MOVITE. Just for fun... if you read this whole note send me an email letting me know. (Thanks, Matt Selinger.)

Sincerely,

Cheryl Lambrecht
