The 77 th Annual Meeting of the Institute of Transportation Engineers was held in Pittsburgh, PA, on Aug ust 5-8, 2007, the location where the Institute was founded in 1930. Nearly 1300 persons registered for some portion of the meeting.

Highlights of the meeting included the Honorees Banquet on Saturday evening, the ITE Annual Business Meeting on Sunday afternoon, and the Opening Session with a presentation by David K. Foot, a demographer, discussing the implications of demography on the future, a special orientation session for young professionals and new attendees, and a forum for elected officers.

At the Annual B usiness Meeting on Aug ust 5, I was privileged to provide a summary of ITE activities for the year. You can find this summary in the August issue of the ITE Journal. The results of the 2008 officer election were announced with Alf Guebert to serve as International President and Ken Voigt as International Vice-President joining Tom Brahms and me on the 2008 ITE Executive Committee.

The International Board of Direction has formed a new ITE Public Relations Committee to determine next steps to implement a Public Relations toolbox for our members, increase public information about ITE and what we do, and to proactively raise the image of the profession. The Board also approved the renaming of the Goods Movement Council to be the Freight Mobility Council to increase the visibility of this important issue and to attract more interest in the work of this Council.

This has been a wonderful year for me personally and rewarding to see ITE making progress in so many directions. I will be attending the ITS World Congress in Beijing October 9-13 and look forward to reporting the opportunities for exchange of information with Transportation Professionals in China.
